Let’s See Why Cuisinart TOB-40 May be the Best Toaster Oven
Do you know that the Apple II computer released back in 1977 was very much inspired by Cuisinart food processor?
Cuisinart, one of the premier kitchen appliance brands, tries to top the toaster oven market with the Cuisinart TOB-40. Is this particular toaster oven the answer to my cooking conundrum?
This Cuisinart TOB-40 toaster oven review will answer all of this and more. It will outline all of the pros and cons of this product as well as introduce online comments from some customers who bought this toaster oven.
Why is Cuisinart TOB-40 Said to be the Best Toaster?
Since I wanted a toaster oven that is easy to use, I don’t think I was able to do better than the TOB-40. I, as well as many users who have posted Cuisinart toaster oven reviews online, have raved about how easy it was to operate the Bagel, Bake, Broil and Toast functions. Each of these functions even “remembers” my settings for such things as the darkness of my toast or the temperature of my oven. I no longer have to do a trial and error session every time I use it.
The Always Even Shade Control function is a marquee addition to this product. This feature consistently checks the temperature and timing so that my toast darkens to my desired shade each and every time. One online reviewer praised the Cuisinart TOB-40′s “nice even toasting.”
I love how the automatic slide-out rack lets me load and remove foods from my Cuisinart toaster oven hands free. Since some users have talked online about how hot this toaster oven can get at full power, this is a useful -and appreciated- addition.
Removable Crumb Tray
I for one love an easy cleaning job. What I and many other users appreciate about this toaster oven is its removable crumb tray. Most of us have dealt with toaster ovens that have crumb trays that are close to impossible to keep clean. Since the tray is located in the front of the toaster oven, after-breakfast cleaning is a snap.
I do not have a lot of counter space in my kitchen. The Cuisinart TOB-40 is the ideal solution to my space problems as it does not take up much room. In addition to its size, the TOB-40 was extremely light coming out of the box. I thought the toaster oven’s weight would effect how it worked, but so far it has not.
The TOB-40 allows you to cook an 11″ pizza or six slices of toast in its interior. With its cool-to-the-touch handle, the non-stick interior that allows for easy cleaning, and the safety auto-shut off feature, you really are getting a lot for your money. Speaking of money, you will not spend a lot on the Cuisinart TOB-40. Since this toaster oven is less than $100, you are getting a quality, top of the line appliance for a really fair price.
Where It Flops
Even though the Cuisinart TOB-40 has a handle that is cool when I touch it, it gets really hot on the top and sides. Exercise caution when using the product.
Readability of the Controls
The lettering on the toaster oven settings are extremely small. A step or two up in the font would be a large improvement over the current incarnation. This is a smaller “con” as the settings font should not be a problem for those who have normal vision. Since I wear glasses, I had to make more of an effort to read the type. The effort wasn’t huge, mind you. It was just enough to merit a “con.”
Let me preface this by saying that the Cuisinart TOB-40 is an all-around safe product. However, one feature that you need to watch out for is located in the oven. The oven interior contains two sharp prongs. Their main purpose is to retract the toaster oven’s tray. I almost cut my wrists on one of these things, so be careful!
The rack in this toaster oven does not push in completely flat. It is not a huge difference between what I would expect from a toaster oven and what I got from this one, but it can definitely make the cooking process a bit more difficult when it’s hot.
Lack of Timer
Some people online have complained about the Cuisinart TOB-40′s lack of a timer. This could be a problem if you frequently use your toaster oven for baking and roasting. Since I mostly use my toaster oven for toast and leftover pizza, a lack of a timer was not a problem for me.
My Verdict on Cuisinart TOB-40
The Cuisinart TOB-40 is a great product for the most part. Given its price point, it certainly lacks features to compete for the best toaster oven champion that costs four or five times more.
But when we talk about the best dollar-for-dollar toaster oven, there is hardly any other contender to choose from other than the Cuisinart TOB-40.
